“That’s How I Got To Live” by Jim Rohn is a motivating and humorous book by the same author who wrote “The Road” and “The Perfective Suite.” The book chronicles Rohn’s journey from having a mediocre life in California to living out his dream in Memphis. The book chronicles his trials and triumphs, how he came to be the person he is today. It is a terrific read with an easy, casual pace. This book has many things that could resonate with people from all walks of life. People of all ages will appreciate this motivational and humorous book.

This book is a fun read and also sheds: some light on the things that we need to do in order to get through life. Rohn touches on subjects including, relationships, career, passion, money, raising children and much more. There are lessons that are learned within these pages and life experiences that can help anyone get through the rough times. This book is not only for the person who is on the outside looking in, it is also for the person who is inside looking out.

Rohn starts the book by sharing a story: about a friend of his who was so depressed over his failed marriage proposal. He couldn’t find the courage to ask his girlfriend out, and was drinking and smoking as a way to numb the pain. One day when he went to visit his friend, who had moved to New York, he was excited to see his old friend. Unfortunately, his friend passed away just days before his friend was due to move back to Southern California. The sadness hit Rohn like a ton of bricks and he felt totally lost without his friend. This book also touches on a subject that many people struggle with, how to let go of things that mean so much to you.

The closing chapters of this book detail: some of the things that helped Rohn get through the tough time. Some of the suggestions and guidelines include having a goal and a mission statement, changing negative thinking into positive thinking, and getting over the “us vs them” mentality. Rohn even includes an example of a “self-help book” that you can get your self-esteem back. Overall, this was a great book to read and very motivating.

I think that this book would be helpful: to anyone who is having problems dealing with themselves and their fears. If you don’t have much hope of changing yourself, then at least with this book you will gain a sense of motivation. It’s interesting to note that this book came out almost three months after his own death. He wanted to write a book that would help others as well as he did, and his message is delivered in this book.
